Mishawaka Police Dispatcher Of The Year

Mishawaka Police Chief Ken Witkowski has announced Kayla Oler, a 5-1/2 year veteran of the Mishawaka Police Department Communications Center, as the Dispatcher of the Year.

In August, 2013 Kayla received a 911 call from a resident regarding a young mother in labor who was past due with her pregnancy. While obtaining information from the father for the responding emergency units, it became apparent that the baby decided not to wait to be born. In the midst of the excitement, Kayla was able to keep the father-to-be calm and under control so he could do as she instructed and provide the best possible assistance for the mother and baby.
