The City of Mishawaka added a new link on the City website named GIS Maps. This button for this link is in the upper left-hand corner of the home page.
GIS stands for Geographic Information Systems which the City has been actively using since 2000. GIS allows the attachment of data to maps and provides great flexibility in searching and tracking location-related information. The GIS department has now made this exciting new feature available to the public.
The Mishawaka Utilities Water Division has begun its semi-annual fire hydrant flushing program. Periodic flushing is necessary to purge the water distribution system of iron and manganese deposits that may have settled in the water mains over a long period of time. Although not harmful, these residues can discolor the water and lead to discolored laundry or stained plumbing fixtures. Flushing purges the water distribution system of these residues and thus enhances the esthetic qualities of the potable water provided by the City, and also serves to help verify that fire hydrants and associated valves operate properly.
