Republic Services' trash and recycling pickup for the week of June 30-July 4 will be treated as a "normal" week and WILL NOT FOLLOW a "holiday pickup" schedule. Trash and recycling services on the Fourth of July holiday will continue as if there were no Friday holiday and pickups will occur. It will not be treated as a holiday by Republic Services.
City offices will observe the holiday and will be closed on Friday, July 4th.
The City will temporarily display a restored Perkins Windmill on top of the traffic circle pedestal located at the intersection of Front Street and Spring Street in Historic Downtown Mishawaka on Tuesday June 17th 2014, weather permitting. The display site was chosen at the suggestion of former Mayor Robert Beutter and the City's Art in Public Places committee, and sits just a few hundred feet from the former Ball Band and Uniroyal property where the windmill was originally manufactured.
The 25th anniversary of the "Arts in Bloom" Garden Walk sponsored by the Art League is returning to Mishawaka for the 2014 event. The Garden Walk will take place on July 9, 2014 from 10:00am-7:00pm and feature eight to nine gardens on both sides of the St. Joseph River. A Hospitality Center will be set up at the new Center for Hospice Care facility located at 501 Comfort Place in Mishawaka, and will have program booklets (including a map) and complimentary refreshments available the day of the Walk until 5:30pm.
The Mishawaka Police Department will honor those who have fallen in the line of duty with a memorial ceremony on Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at 2:00pm. The ceremony will take place in front of the Mishawaka Police Department located at 200 North Church Street in Mishawaka.
