The regular meeting of the City of Mishawaka Redevelopment Commission was called to order at 6:30 p.m., Monday, May 29, 2013, in Room 205, City Hall, 600 East Third Street, Mishawaka, Indiana. Commissioners Eberhart, O’Dell, Buraczewski, and Stillson were present. Commissioners Ermeti and Pingel were absent. In addition to members of the public, the following were also in attendance: David Thomas, Community Development Director and Marilyn Nelums-Johns, Program Coordinator.

Commissioner O’Dell moved to approve the minutes of April 22, 2013, meeting as circulated. Commissioner Buraczewski seconded; motion carried.

First Time Homebuyer Application
Mr. Thomas presented a First Time Homebuyer Applicant.

First Time Homebuyer Update
Mr. Thomas updated the Commissioners on two homes that are waiting for closings; 426 W. 9th Street and 519 W. 6th Street. There are two more ready to begin construction; 422 E. Grove, 513 E. Broadway, and at least two more after that. Mr. Thomas said he has been working with Habitat for Humanity to become more of a partner on the homebuyer side of things.

Commissioner Eberhart asked about Habitat’s commitment to build a certain number of homes; eight or nine. Mr. Thomas said they are on target.

Commissioner Eberhart asked how many buildable properties we have. Mr. Thomas said approximately forty.

Commissioner O’Dell asked what was happening with the property on McKinley on the east corner. Mr. Thomas stated Dairy Queen and Hall Chrysler have been in touch and both would like more parking. He also said that the Engineering Department wanted to make sure there are no access easements on that corner.

2013 Summer of Service Projects
Mr. Thomas reported that an awesome job was done the weekend of May 16-18 at 1923 Homewood Avenue and 814 E. Third Street.

Anything Else Brought before the Commission
Mr. Thomas presented a Release of Mortgage for 805 E. Mishawaka Avenue. The Commission approved the Release as presented.

Mr. Thomas said Redevelopment is looking for ideas as to how to dispose of the property on Lincolnway West near the Food Pantry.

Commissioner O’Dell asked if Princess Apartments had been demolished. Mr. Thomas indicated that a final walk through is scheduled for this Friday, May 31.

Commissioner O’Dell asked who the owner-of-record was. Mr. Thomas said Randy Miller.

Commissioner O’Dell said he would be present at the June 3 Common Council meeting to accept the Historic Preservation Award for Main Junior High Apartments.

Next Meeting
The next regularly scheduled meeting will be held June 24, 2013, at 6:30 p.m.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:05 p.m.
